International Computer Security Day

Ben Taylor • November 30, 2023

As today is Computer Security Day, it's a great time to brush up on our IT safety habits. Here are 5 quick tips to keep your computer secure:

  1. Strong Passwords: Use complex and unique passwords for each account. Remember, longer is stronger! Use a mixture of numbers, letters, capital letters and symbols to increase the strength for more security. Password Managers, such as Keeper, can generate very strong passwords and keep them saved to avoid forgetting them. The Keeper plugins can then auto-fill in your web browser when you're on a particular site, saving you time and stress!

   2. Regular Updates: Keep your software and operating system updated to protect against the latest threats. Keep an eye out for                       End-of-Life dates for your operating system if you are not on Windows 11. Many previous Windows versions do not support security               updates anymore so are an immediate security risk.

   3. Antivirus Software: Install reliable antivirus software and keep it updated. Better yet, install an EDR-type antivirus that constantly                 monitors your machines for new threats, rather than just acting when a threat presents itself, giving a more pro-active approach to             security.

   4. Beware of Phishing: Always verify emails and links before clicking. If in doubt, don’t click! Company employees are the first-line                     defence when it comes to phishing attacks, so their security awareness training needs to be kept on top of. Contact us to find out                 about the security awareness training we offer.

   5. Backup Your Data: Regularly backup important files to avoid data loss from cyber-attacks or hardware failures. This means that if the         worst were to happen, you could potentially carry on working whilst investigations are happening.
