Single Sign On and its benefits to business - Microsoft 365 integration

Chris Lunn • July 29, 2021

Now we know what Single Sign On (SSO) is, how it can benefit a business, and also how – if implemented with the correct safety measures around its use – it can improve your organisation’s overall security, we can look at how SSO integrates with Microsoft and their suite of tools.

Microsoft 365 integration with SSO

When synchronised with their Microsoft 365 account, your users are able to sign into their account using the same Microsoft credentials. I’m sure you will agree that this is a great feature – until someone forgets their password. We have all been there (making guesses that have very little likelihood of being correct but trying them anyway)! But what can be arguably just as irritating is having to enter the credentials every single time you try to log into an app.

SSO allows users to log in using Active Directory Credentials

SSO will help users to log into their account using their Active Directory credentials. This means that they do not have to repeatedly enter their credentials once they have signed into their machine. Microsoft 365 also has a native function within Microsoft Azure so we will now take a closer look at that.

Microsoft Azure and SSO

The Azure Active Directory makes it possible to access all your apps with SSO from any location on the globe, on any device, from a centralised portal – allowing for a much better experience and increased productivity. With Microsoft Azure and SSO your entire workforce can be connected to some of the world’s most popular applications – including:

·        Dropbox

·        DocuSign

·        Zoom

·        Salesforce

·        Adobe

These are just some of the thousands on offer! Let’s take a look at what Microsoft Azure and SSO make possible.

Access pre-integrated apps

With Microsoft Azure and SSO you can connect your Software-as-a-service (SaaS) apps using their gallery, making for a much more productive work environment.

Scale IT efficiencies

Microsoft Azure integration with SSO will allow you to offer ‘self-service password reset tools’, in turn permitting you to guarantee reduced support times to employees and thereby minimise the overall cost. You can then focus your limited IT resources on higher value activities.

With Microsoft Azure Active Directory Seamless SSO it is possible to automatically sign users in when they are on a corporate device that is connected to your corporate network. With this enabled, you can sign into Azure ID without needing to type your password or even – in some cases – your username.

In the modern world, technology has the power to revolutionise your workplace from the bottom to the top. SSO is just one of the many tools that would be beneficial for you to you look into – as, by implementing it in your organisation, you are putting your team in a better position to enable them to behave more securely, whilst allowing your business to be more productive and your clients’ data to be better secured.
